![]() ![]() ![]() There's a championship series with monthly tournaments running right now. ![]() to take over patches and balance updates, and have been running regular tournaments for its community ever since. Though the original team moved on in 2018, some of the developers formed a mini-studio of their own called Planetary Annihilation Inc. At the time I played four or five hours and thought maybe it was just a bad idea, then played Supreme Commander instead.īut developers Uber Entertainment stuck with it and released Planetary Annihilation: Titans in 2015, a standalone expansion that contained the entirety of the original game, with a raft of improvements. If you really, really want some structure to destroy a single planet, the substitute for a reworked Ragnarok could be using Halley to chuck the planet into the sun.The original Planetary Annihilation was a Kickstarted RTS that promised "Total Annihilation-inspired gameplay on a planetary scale." When released in 2014 it was a bit underwhelming, with dinky Little Prince planets that felt too small to give a sense of grandeur, and attacks that could come from any direction while you tried to keep track of multiple worlds making it simultaneously feel too big. Ragnarok drilling through to the opposite side of the planet and exploding with the force of an asteroid impact would make it both more and less powerful: You could use it without a strong offworld presence, and even in one-body systems, but the enemy commander has like 10 hours to move themself and their base if they don't want to stop you. You don't get to use it often, when when you do it's perhaps overpowered. Huge water only planets to play out all kinds of naval only scenarios will also be supported. First class support for naval means you will be able to have a combination of water and land planets as well as ice asteroids. However, having something with only one very powerful use isn't necessarily good for the game. Likewise we want great support for water in the engine and the ability to create amazing planets that are largely water. It's not useless, that's for sure it means that if you have the better off-world base, once you start building this thing you force the enemy to throw everything they have at your defences, which is very expensive and would definitely cost them more than they cost you. I hate Windows 10 and the stupid updates that break stuff. I started having this issue since around the Creators Update too. Total annihilation, like the game has now Fragmentation, destroying much of the planet and turning the rest into orbiting islands traversible by aircraft (because a crater the size of half the planet would look bad) If Halley didn't completely blow up planets every time, instead having various modes of damage based on size ratio, then it could have more uses. I reckon a lot of PA games are oversized just so these kinds of features can actually make an appearance, 2 players fighting across 3+ worlds is just silly. In the current state of the game, where any successful use of Halley is absolutely guaranteed to delete two celestial bodies, you obviously need to have some kind of presence on a third body which means Halley can only be used in large games. I reckon asteroids should be mega-nukes, not total planetbusters. While I think it's silly that a moon only did as much damage as a nuke, asteroids completely blowing up planets seems a little much. Looking at old videos of this game, it seems that planets used to be only partially destroyed when hit by moons or other planets. ![]()
